The No Child Left Behind Act has created a large number of waves in education. Schools across the country have been closed down because the students did not meet the required scores on the state exams. Teaching to the test has become too common across the country. Teachers, students, and stakeholders feel the constant pressure to achieve a score rather than to educate a child. The tests do give some reliable information, but the constant threat of punishment has made many people cheat on these tests. The sad thing is that the text anxiety alone is enough to cause a problem for many students. We have become a society that is teaching students to simply do what needs to be done to get by. We are not teaching our children how to become thinkers and revolutionaries. We must find common ground between teaching to the test and teaching to learn.
