I agree. A personal study space is of paramount importance when it comes to academic achievement. My study space, coincidentally, also changes from time to time . It will never be constant and we all keep finding a better environment for our studies. I don't really like studying with my friends as I find it distracting. I won't be able to concentrate with them by my side and I only want them there because during lunch break, we can go to a restaurant together and have a nice talk. I have to study on my own if I want to reach maximum efficiency. Thanks for your article and it's a great tip for any student who wishes to boost their academic performance.

I've always wanted to have my own aquarium at home because I can't have any other pets due to my allergy. Starting an aquarium is never easy but you have given us a quick starter guide to look at. I'd go for tropical fish at first since they are easier to raise. Recently I've been having a lot of pressure and I hope an aquarium would make me relaxed!

What happens when wind is not very strong is definitely something we need to think about. Often I hear about making better batteries for that, which is a good thing. But I think the best thing we can do is vary our energy sources. If we put all of our efforts into wind for example, we leave ourselves pretty vulnerable to this. If we put half into wind and half into solar we seem to be in a much better situation, often the times that solar will have poor performance are the same times that wind will do particularly well, and visa versa.

Great article. In fact, I've been practicing these strategies ever since high school, when I was preparing for my A-level exam. Life was hectic and unbearable back then, and as the exam date drew near, we, students were frantically searching for effective exam-taking skills. Among these strategies, I personally think #1, #2, #7 and #8 are the most important ones. Reviewing all the questions before attempting to answer gives you a clear overview of what the paper is about and a better choice is made through careful selection.

Spotting the key words in a question is the secret to success, I'd say. I don't write a lot in exams, but I usually score higher than my schoolmates, because I never write irrelevant or redundant details. Lastly, be prepared, revise every topic and then there's nothing you can't tackle.

You're right. It's about learning how to deal with a standardized test. Studying should be about learning new skills and gaining knowledge that will prepare young adults to succeed in life. Testing is helpful, but if the test becomes a goal on it's own, it's not.

Exactly what I needed. Every student needs proper note-taking skills to take their academic performance to the next level. But not many know how to take notes. I find the 'Don't neglect visuals' tip very useful. It actually enhances memorization and saves time when taking notes. I often draw mind maps in revision and symbols occupy most of the space on the sheet. I also find the process of writing notes beneficial for memorization. Thanks for sharing.

Technology is one of those great things that have revolutionized education! That's for sure.

But one thing that more technology has negatively affected education is when it comes to laptops in the classroom. Now instead of listening to the lecture and taking notes, students are on facebook or playing games or checking their football game results. This is not a good thing. Not at all. I used to do the crossword in lectures but that was a little distraction, not a screen blocking my view of the lecture notes!

I would love to add a few more tips:

1) respect the word limit. If you write too few words, you won't show the admission committees what you're about. If you write too many words, you'll show the committee you can't follow direction. Aim for the word limit. Edit so you reach that limit.

2) write something personal. Use specific examples. Show your admission committee who you are!
